Sculpture/Augmented Reality Animation (4X3m)
“Creating new immersive software, highjacking commercial apps and challenging prevailing modes of representation in and beyond the digital sphere, the artist reflects on power structures, dreams and isolation amidst the Covid19 lockdown.
Mikala Hyldig Dal presents the installation piece (…) that combines an augmented reality environment with sculptural elements and a personal narrative. The artist recalls the dreams she had while experiencing pregnancy, childbirth and infant care during two Covid19 lockdowns. The stories become mirrors into alternative realities touching on the undoing of gendered financial inequality, colonial landgrab, and the depletion of “natural” resources in the name of commerce. In immersive environments utilizing an augmented reality platform created specifically for her artworks, the artist examines alternative past and future histories.”

The work addresses conceptions of ownership in urban and interstellar space, connecting the local context of gentrification to the topic of interstellar colonialism eg through Elon Musk's SpaceX project. The project reflects on worldwide processes of capital accumulation and deprivation while integrating the altered living conditions during Covid-19: how our bodies are defined in relation to shrinking spaces and how social isolation is expanding.
